Australian Powerball uses seven main numbers from 35 plus a Powerball from 20. Division 1 odds are 1 in 134,490,400, among the longest in Australian lottery.
Thursday night draws routinely produce jackpots above $50 million. This guide explains the 7+1 format, all nine divisions, how it differs from US Powerball, and how to use the full quick pick generator above.
What is Australian Powerball?
Powerball launched in Australia in May 1996, originally as a supplement to Lotto games. It became a standalone national game and has produced some of Australia's largest lottery prizes.
Pick 7 numbers from 1 to 35 plus 1 Powerball from 1 to 20. The format changed to 7/35 + 1/20 in April 2018 (previously 6/40 + 1/20).
Draws run every Thursday at approximately 8:30 PM AEST/AEDT. Minimum entry is around $1.35 per game.
How the 7+1 format works
- Select seven different main numbers (1-35).
- Select one Powerball (1-20).
- Pay per game, system entry, or syndicate share.
- Thursday draw determines winners across nine divisions.
System entries and syndicates work the same way as Oz Lotto: more numbers means more combinations and higher cost, but broader coverage.
